What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy is the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Physical therapists have licensed health care professionals who help restore mobility in patients. Physical therapy may include manual, functional, sports specific, and gait training, as well as, modalities such as heat, ice, ultrasound, exercise.

What is Aquatic Therapy?

Aquatic therapy is physical therapy administered in a warm therapy pool. Aquatic therapy helps decrease spasms and pain and promotes muscle relaxation. Depending on your diagnosis, aquatic therapy may be a part of your therapy plan. If you do participate in aquatic therapy, you will eventually progress out of the pool and on to land therapy. Swimming experience is not necessary for participation in aquatic therapy.

Do you have Saturday appointments?

Yes, currently at our Bowie, Laurel, Timonium, and Severna Park locations. We also offer convenient hours before and after work. Monday – Thursday: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Please call to confirm Saturday hours as not all offices are open every Saturday.

Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?

Maryland participates in Direct Access, a law which allows patients to seek physical therapy services without a physician’s prescription. Many insurance companies, however, require patients to have a prescription from their doctor. Please contact your insurance provider or call one of our locations for more information.

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit will last approximately one hour and will include an extensive evaluation with your physical therapist to review your symptoms, history, and diagnosis. Your physical therapist will design a treatment plan for you, which will include a home exercise plan. If your doctor or therapist has determined that you require aquatic therapy, you will be scheduled in the pool after your first visit.
