Kinesio Taping Provides Substantial Support for Treating Injuries

Originally developed in the 1970s, Kinesiology tape was created by a Japanese chiropractor who was seeking to find a way to provide support without limiting movement. Today, this tape is commonly used by those who participate in sports and are looking for ways to prevent or provide relief from sport-related injuries. However, one does not have to be involved in sports to benefit from Kinesio tape. Regardless of what may be causing your injury or discomfort, one of our kind and compassionate physical therapists would be happy to assist you. The following is a closer look at the ways in which you can benefit from Kinesio tape.

Kinesio Tape Benefits

Made from a cotton/nylon blend, Kinesio tape was designed as a way to imitate the natural elasticity of the skin in order to improve your range of motion. As a medical-grade adhesive, Kinesio tape is very convenient because it can be worn for days at a time (up to 3-5 days) and is even waterproof, making it possible for you to wear it while working out or bathing. When applied to the skin, this tape slightly recoils, which helps to gently lift the skin.

Enhanced Support for Weakened Muscles

Used for treating injuries, re-educating muscles, enhancing performance, supporting weak zones, and managing scars, if you are in need of physical therapy services, Kinesio tape may be incorporated into your personalized treatment plan. For instance, if you are being seen for a knee injury, in addition to your stretches and exercises, your physical therapist may also use Kinesio taping to areas around your knee joints as a means of providing temporary relief while you continue to work on regaining your full mobility.
